ABSTRACT
The quote above speaks to the contimIed confusion between management and leadership. Although it might, on the surface, appear to be an oversimplification of a complex concept, it has often been said that one manages "things" and leads "people." During arecent presentation at a staff development conference, Tony Thacker, was asked to gi\'e his definition of leadership. He stated that leadership is having the moral courage to make the tough decisions and the humble wisdom to know when others should be given the opportunity to do so. He further stated that the truly gifted leaders are the ones who understand when each is appropriate.
