Throughout my career as a school administrator, my number one priority has been visibility within the school, particularly in classrooms. My own experience as a classroom teacher is one reason I place such an emphasis on administrator visibility. Too often, I taught at schools in which I could go for an entire school year without a classroom visit from the principal. At one high school in which I taught, my students did not know the name of the principal. If the principal truly is the instructional leader of the school, he or she must spend the majority of the time where instruction occurs-in classrooms.
