ABSTRACT
No school that I know of serves students from only one ethnic background or one socioeconomic subgroup. Our own school is much more homogeneous than most, with 85 percent of our student population identified as Caucasian. Yet it is striking to note that only a decade earlier, this same figure was nearly 100 percent. In our school community, we are experiencing rapid growth in our Spanish-speaking population. Among this student subgroup, a significant number arrive classified as Limited English Proficient (LEP) and are served through our English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program.
