Prepare to succeed means to allot time for all sections, scan the sections for length and difficulty, stay positive, and start within two minutes of when the teacher has passed out the test. Students should write “PIRATES” on the top of your paper to help them remember the steps. Inspect the instructions means to read the instructions carefully, underline what to do and where to respond, and notice any special requirements. (Remember the mnemonic RUN.) Read, remember, and reduce means to read the whole question and all choices given, remember what was studied, and then reduce the choices. Students should cross out the ones they know are not possible answers. Answer or abandon means either answer it or move on to the next question. Students should not waste time on questions they are not sure of. Many times continuing on with the test may assist them in answering ones they originally had difficulty with.
