ABSTRACT
You recognize a caring school as soon as you approach the school building. The caring is transmitted by the physical environment. It is what your ears and eyes tell you. This is sometimes described as the school climate or the milieu. One element of a caring climate is what the school looks like on the outside: Is there graffiti on the walls? Do rusty fences surround the school? Is there a large, colorful, attractive welcome sign as you enter?
