Language and the female subject

The following text is an excerpt from Patrizia Violi's work on sexual difference in language, a subject on which she recently published a book, L'infinito singolare (1986). Her starting-point is the conviction that sexual difference is a fundamental dimension of experience and she speculates on how it presents itself in language and linguistics.
