Treating someone with respect is not difficult to do. It is not difficult to treat someone in the way that you would like to be treated. However, what is difficult is doing it all the time. Everyone understands the concept of the “Golden Rule”—Treat others the way you would want to be treated. This life philosophy is found in many world religions and has stood the test of time, yet it can be difficult to treat everyone with respect every day. Coach Fox demonstrates respect most of the time. Coach Fox nine days out of ten treats others the way he would like to be treated. But what about that one day? We have all been the recipient of that one day, and many of us will probably never forget it. Effective coaches, however, find a way to demonstrate respect ten days out of ten. That includes their assistant coaches, managers, ball boys, and their best athletes as well as their worst. That includes the athletes you like and the ones you like less.
