ABSTRACT

This quotation, from the fi rst book in the Twilight Saga (Meyers 2005: 139), provides an excellent illustration of the strong and sometimes overpowering feeling we refer to as romantic or passionate love. As popular myth would have it, we often fall in love with someone who is less than appropriate as a relationship partner, based on his or her status characteristics or social background. In this case, Bella, a human teenager, has fallen in love with Edward, a vampire-not a good match in their social world. This provides much of the storyline for this book, as well as the three subsequent novels about their relationship.
