Beyond the East-West divide: education and the dynamics of Australia-Asia relations
This is an extraordinarily significant conference for the Australian Association for Research in Education (AARE). It is the first time that AARE has held a joint conference with an Asian educational research association, viewing the event itself as an expression of our commitment to closer cultural and educational ties within the region. Our decision to be here is consistent therefore with the calls by successive governments in Australia to develop closer working relationships within the Asia-Pacific region-to see ourselves as part of Asia. On behalf of AARE, I would like to thank the Singapore Educational Research Association for organising this unique event, which will help build, I am sure, many new and exciting relationships.
