ABSTRACT

As media servers evolve, more are beginning to offer methods for controlling the software without using a lighting console. These methods, either internally or via a separate application, open the door to a wider range of technicians who are not familiar with how to program a lighting console or who simply do not understand DMX, but who want to be able to take advantage of some of the real-time manipulation of video that media servers allow. Media servers with internal playback control may provide this control via a timeline feature. Instead of using a timeline, some media servers allow stored cues or presets to be played back directly from the user interface via a computer keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen. A separate stand-alone application is typically written as a proprietary piece of software that works specifically with a certain server or brand of servers.
