ABSTRACT

This chapter presents materials that are frequently found in legislative library collections. Supporting every legislative reference service is a working collection of resource materials relied upon by staff and patrons. The items cited are either targeted at legislative users, or are devoted to, or contain information of legislative interest. Directories of legislative policy specialists, librarians, and leaders identify resource people in a given subject or occupation who possess or have accessible specific data by nature of their position or office. Persons involved in the legislative process must have access to basic legal materials. The laws enacted at the local government level by city councils and other legislative bodies are referred to as ordinances. Congress, state legislatures, and other government legislative bodies also delegate some legislative functions to government agencies. Journals devoted to issues of governmental concern can be useful sources of information when responding to legislative requests.
