ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the situation of women’s libraries in the world, specifically the issues of institutional affiliation and the continuing lack of financial support. It describes the women’s libraries and documentation centres in the Netherlands, focusing on the International Archives for the Women’s Movement which merged with the Information and Documentation Centre for the Women’s Movement and the journal Lover to form the International Information Centre and Archives for the Women’s Movement (IIAV). Three nongovernmental organizations can be considered national institutes: the International Archives for the Women’s Movement, the Information and Documentation Centre for the Women’s Movement, and the feminist journal Lover, a literature survey for women. The journal Lover also helps bridge the gap between research and activism. The IIAV is open to everyone: researcher, policy maker, activist. Although a part of the collection is intended for academic use, it contains more than academic information.
