ABSTRACT

The Molesworth Institute has developed, and begun to make available to a select group of libraries, a new set of cataloging services through its network organization OLCC, Inc., Offline Library Creative Cataloging. The purpose of this program is to provide libraries with innovative approaches to cataloging and catalogs by moving beyond the limitations of ISBD, AACR2, and fixed notions, based on past prejudices, of what cataloging, catalogs, and catalog cards should look like. A catalog where everything looks alike and all information is presented in the same fashion cannot help but be boring and cannot ultimately hope to capture the interest of the user. Through the use of OLCC, Inc.’s services, the library is able to provide the user with a range and variety of catalog cards designed to stimulate his/her interest.
