ABSTRACT

The relevance of the international debate about the future of foreign correspondents and foreign news must—in the case of Norway—be discussed in relation to two trends. In a debate about correspondents working for Norwegian news outlets in other parts of the world, the concept of ‘endangered species’ (Emery, 1989) is highly relevant. As in many other Western countries (Hamilton & Jenner, 2004; Sambrook, 2010), the number of full-time foreign correspondents working for Norwegian media has been decreasing during the last two decades. The public service Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) is an important exception.
