"Uneasy Lies the Head": Selecting Resources in a Consortial Setting
Libraries today exist in a rapidly changing environment that they neither manage nor significantly influence. While institutional settings differ, the same general conditions exist for all of us and we must identify, evaluate and respond to those environmental forces that most directly influence library services. These include:
• economic conditions; • technological innovation; • changes in education at all levels; • community or institutional priorities and the influences of the en-
vironment on local resources; • local institutional imperatives including changing leadership, fi-
nancial resources, and changing priorities.
