ABSTRACT
The judicialization of politics is a frequently acclaimed phenomenon. Judicial review (JR)—the power of the judiciary to review the compatibility of legislation with the constitution—is perhaps the most important aspect of that phenomenon. 2 In this chapter, we describe the evolution of constitutional review around the world since 1950. Our contribution is thus primarily empirical rather than theoretical.
