ABSTRACT
Puerto Ricans with AIDS constitute a distinct ethnic group and illustrate the need for a multicultural approach to social work practice with individuals with HIV infection and AIDS. This paper deals with the dissonance created when cultural characteristics of nurturance, support, and caring clash with feelings of fear, stigma, and anger and cause conflict in the helping process.
