ABSTRACT

John C. Lincoln determined while in high school that electrical engineering would be his life’s work. Lincoln’s first positions were with Brush Electric Company and the Elliot-Lincoln Electric Company. Since 1895, Lincoln Electric has been engaged in creating real products to suit the real needs of real people. Since the late 1950s, Lincoln Electric has operated under a policy of Guaranteed Continuous Employment. The working partnership of these two brothers generated unique benefits for the two of them as individuals, and for the fledgling Lincoln Electric Company as a whole. The Lincoln Electric Company is the largest manufacturer of arc welding products in the world, operating twenty plants in fifteen countries. At Lincoln, the hiring process relies on an extensive series of personal interviews. In each interview, the emphasis is on identifying the job candidate’s levels of self-motivation and success orientation.
