ABSTRACT

The Rev. D. H. Mader is an assistant pastor at the Pauluskerk, a city-center parish in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, where his duties include advising the church’s sexuality committee. He is also a translator and independent scholar, having published in the Journal of Homosexuality and several editions of Gay: een cultureel jaarboek voor mannen and other journals, contributed to the first edition of the Encyclopedia of Homosexuality, provided introductions for reprints and translations such as Men and Boys: An Anthology (1978) and the first English edition of Alcibiades the Schoolboy (2000), and been photo reviewer for the German gay magazine Euros. He is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Amsterdam, working on a thesis on five Christian boy-love poets of the late 19th and early 20th centuries (G. E. Woodberry, Willard Wattles, W. A.
