ABSTRACT
In the poetic prose of Aguilera Malta, there are many images and metaphors with connotations that make the reader enter immediately into the magical world of realismo maravilloso. Through his version of realismo maravilloso, Aguilera Malta's artistic work sheds light on different aspects of Latin American reality. It shows the abuse of power, the corruption of civil and religious institutions, the problems of social and racial discrimination, and the different elements of Latin American "mestizaje" where Christian, Indian, and African traditions intermingle. A world where the coexistence of "civilizatión" and primitivism is possible.
