SUMMARY. This essay is a direct response to Archbishop Harry J. Flynn’s keynote at the Symposium “Trusting the Clergy: The churches and communities come to grips with sexual misconduct.” It focuses on the contradiction between an institutional protection agenda and a justice-making agenda as seen in response to sexual abuse by Catholic priests.
