ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores in depth why some Catholics seek an annulment whereas others do not. It presents the criticisms of annulments along with the stories of some who are opposed to them. The book provides valuable source of information for both the person who is seeking or contemplating an annulment, and the divorced Catholic who is opposed to an annulment. It aims to help tribunal personnel understand that although they must deal with Catholic Church law, they are also dealing with human beings who are typically going through a very traumatic time in their lives. The book describes new insight into the annulment process, a process that is often shrouded in mystery and misunderstanding. Divorce is a stressful and devastating experience for many who go through the process. Society and its institutions also feel the impact of divorce.
