ABSTRACT

May 4, 2000, dawned in much of the Western world as a balmy spring day. But for millions ofInternet users, businesses, and governments, it ended in chaos and despair. A surprise e-mail attack known as the "Love Virus" assaulted computers world-wide. Worming its way in through e-mail, it cut e-mail communication as it swept through Asia, Europe, and North America. The self-replicating virus seemed to have no quick remedy; instead, it was an epidemic.
