ABSTRACT

On August 27, Maureen and the author celebrated their fifteenth anniversary. They make the claim that fifteen lesbian relationship years equals forty-five heterosexual relationship years given the typical lesbian couples' lifespan! Their relationships are so fragile, so tender, and so susceptible to breakups. The tender hearts of these two women were burst wide open through this pain, and an opening was thereby created through which each could be truly seen by the other. At first the friendship between these women seemed a mere diversion; but then it became exciting and, pretty soon, it became absolutely erotic. But the overriding attraction happened to be their souls. They laugh at the same jokes, covet the same beautiful things, and take pleasure in the same food. Fragile, improbable, miraculous, they propagate themselves in these five days; they age, mature, fall back to dormancy, and sleep until they die within the sleep within the rock within the ice within Antarctica.
