ABSTRACT

Women in the clubs think they have passed the street stage, feel as if they are elevated. Once a person goes to a club, he/she have a kind of bias—one thinks he/she is better than the women on the street. There are forty-five clubs registered with the Dermatological Clinic, and that's not the full amount in Suriname. There are about twenty or thirty something that are not licensed. The women were not really helping each other on the street. Everybody was there for herself alone. There was no solidarity. Nadia Raveles explained that Maxi Linder was organizing women, especially on the Waterkant, the riverside, against the men. A couple of women are in the government, and they are hustling the streets at night. Women on the street operate in the yards which belong to somebody in a house in the yard.
