ABSTRACT

In recent years many researchers have commented on the motives that lie behind the efforts of individuals to create their own business enterprises (Stanworth and Curran, 1973; Cross, 1981; Storey, 1982; Cromie, 1987) and Cromie and Johns (1983) have reported that the need for achievement and the locus of control scores of new business proprietors are significantly higher than those of established owners. However, fewer writers have reported on the satisfaction that entrepreneurs obtain when their business is up and running.
