Development and ethics

The Ica valley is a semi-arid coastal area about 300 km south of Lima. What has unravelled there in the last 25 years poignantly illustrates how decisions taken at different moments construct a certain reality with deep implications for people’s lives and the environment.1 The development story of the Ica valley highlights that the types of normative frameworks people use for individual and collective decision-making have a considerable impact on the material reality of the world.
