ABSTRACT
After having discussed IDIOM's characteristics, the issues: ‘What are the main causes of deforestation in the humid tropics?’ and ‘What policies will reduce this deforestation?’ can be analysed with the help of the model. There are, in addition, important subsidiary considerations such as whether the policies are feasible, how much they will cost, who will pay and who will benefit.
