ABSTRACT
The philosophy behind aquatic plant treatment systems arises from observations that many natural aquatic systems such as ponds and wetlands have an inherent ability to cleanse waste-water. This knowledge has been translated into the development of a variety of constructed aquatic plant treatment systems designed specifically to remove pollutants from waste-water. These systems fall into three basic categories: constructed wetlands, floating aquatic plant systems and living machine systems.
