ABSTRACT
Distance, of varying sorts, and a lack of familiarity create the effectiveness of structures. The effectiveness of an opaque structure or thing can be deployed for a variety of reasons. When they do not have familiarity, activists in fact have less effectiveness in the direction they hope for — either working past each other or against each other. When a Leviathan-like thing such as Friends of the Earth International becomes known, more familiar, and less opaque it can be deployed as a thing. Mariangela began exploring different strategies for 'getting through' to Diana. Thinking with vectors in fields of forces imagines the dance of relationships to include the effects of the magnitude of power and the directionality of different types of actions, self-presentations and self-identifications. Vectors and fields of force explain how things like offices, institutions and other structures actually do have effects even though people have and exact agency.
