ABSTRACT

This chapter includes wire, sandpaper, and fabrics that are used so frequently in a theatre scene shop that they are often kept in stock and ready to use at any moment. It isn't really practical to make a separate trip to the hardware store every time people need some hot melt glue. A number of theatrical specialty fabrics are available only from a theatrical supplier. One of these is scrim, which is a net-like material with rectangular openings. It is often used to create see-through curtains. White and black are the popular colors. Scrim is generally available in widths around the 16 to 18 or 30 foot range. There are many different flame-retarding compounds on the market. Some are liquids that get sprayed on after the scenery is painted, and some are additives that people can put in the paint itself. Retardants are available from most theatrical suppliers. This chapter further includes hanging hardware, casters, adhesives, flame proofing and cordage.
