ABSTRACT

Thus, with a progressively greater consumption of illicit drugs to the point of addiction/dependence, significant and unhealthy shifts in lifestyle would be expected and have been suggested by previous studies. This unhealthy lifestyle shift, if observed among drug addicts would suggest the need to develop a treatment that addresses various life domains during their recovery from drug abuse. In other words, complete recovery from cocaine addiction may require changes in behavior that transcend a mere abstinence from the use of cocaine and other illicit drugs (Marlatt, 1985). In principle, healthy drug rehabilitation involves normalcy, and/or improvement beyond prior addiction levels across several domains such as the behavioral (exercise, diet), the psychological (beliefs and attitudes) and the psychiatric (emotional distress) lifestyle domains.
