Survival in the contemporary practice of medicine will depend upon:

physicians’ ability to adapt to less reimbursement for services provided;

consideration of the need to develop an increasingly large base of patients served;

the ability to remain or to become proactively customer oriented to attract and keep new patients; and

the development of strong linkages with sources who refer patients.
