ABSTRACT

While the great bulk of the Ugandan population lives by subsistence agriculture, in the towns the Africans are engaged in the whole range of occupations normal to an urban community (except that the bulk of the commerce is in the hands of Asians). Particularly is this true of Kampala, the capital city, which also adjoins the capital of the Buganda, the largest and most advanced of the tribes. Here too is established the oldest university of East Africa, Makerere College, with a mixed expatriate, African and Asian staff.
