ABSTRACT

American Beauty is nothing more than dysfunction at its best or should the author say its worst. America, unfortunately, maybe has come to this. The American landscape described in the movie is not beautiful. It shows the destruction of family, the death of the American dream, it glorifies materialism, infidelity, drug use, guns and violence and accentuates society's obsession with sexuality. The time has come to raise the standards. An awareness of what we have become and what could be is a good start. Perhaps we can soon be entertained by what is wholesome and good, what life should and could be and what we might strive towards as people, parents, grandparents and children. All of Glacier Bay is part of what people could imagine as beautiful in their land of America.
