ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the nature of children’s written contributions to a football weblog (‘blog’) during the 2006 World Cup. The information comes from a wider project which explored how a temporary, popular global sporting event could create opportunities for children’s language development (Safford et al., 2007 1 ); it took place in two Year 6 classrooms and involved children, teachers, teaching assistants and university teacher-educators. We have included this chapter because the enquiry investigates how children can carry out ‘real life’ writing activities in the classroom.
