ABSTRACT
In this chapter we turn our attention to examining how both the spontaneous on-the-hoof observations and the more detailed observations, plus any other evidence you gather on a regular basis, can be used to create the EYFS Profile. This is the first statutory assessment to be made of children and it takes place in the final school year of the foundation phase. This means that the EYFS Profile is the official summative assessment of the foundation stage. The ongoing assessment you have been doing is known as formative assessment.
