ABSTRACT

Information and communication technology (ICT) has since its beginnings played a role in supporting the process of learning and training. In this chapter we focus on the learning and training of cognitive and motor competences in sport. We call it sports learning and training. We note that these ICTs have not always lived up to their associated high expectations. In particular, the appearance of new technologies often polarizes experts on learning and training. Some, such as enthusiastic early adopters, overestimate the opportunities of the new technology, while others deplore the end of traditional learning. Often, neither parties’ visions materialize, but after a short period of hype (and a long period of follow-up research) the new technology takes its place in the arsenal of ICT tools for the enhancement of learning and training.
