ABSTRACT

The IDhaafa-construct consists of nouns bound together into an indivisible unit,

generally indicating either possession or that one entity is related to another.

Two nouns in an IDhaafa-construct are used to express the relationship between

two nouns, for example, X noun of Y [noun]. As an illustration, ِلَبَلجا ُدوعُص “mountain climbing” or ِةَضاي ِّرلاُةَدَهاشُم “sport watching” do not convey a sense of ownership, or possession, as does ِِبلاّطلاُباتِك “the student’s book,” literally, “the book of the student.”
