ABSTRACT

In this chapter we discuss how the participants make home in London. We show how the rejection of intolerance, or what Zee Zee calls the refusal to ‘put hate in her heart’ becomes a resource or tool to build a convivial multiculture (Gilroy 2004). Contained in the lives of our participants are insights into the everyday virtues that explain how successful multicultural lives are made. These experiences are used as the basis to develop the theorisation of multicultural conviviality, demonstrating how cultures of coexistence that bridge different backgrounds are established, even in the midst of racism and urban divisions.
