ABSTRACT

There is a need to implement a set of rigorous procedures to ensure that doping control in sport is both fair and consistent across different nations and sports and acts as an effective deterrent. From Chapter 3 , it is clear that doping is de¿ ned by the violation of any of the anti-doping rules set out in the World Anti-Doping Code (WADC). Doping control procedures are therefore centred on the detection of those who contravene these rules but also on effective preventative mechanisms. Whilst detection of anti-doping rule violations (ADRVs) and subsequent sanctioning may act as a deterrent to those who are tempted by doping, it is envisaged that anti-doping education is able to act as an effective preventative measure.
