ABSTRACT

Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries are often used in live event production for a variety of applications. They have a very high energy density but less volatility than a lithium metal battery. They have dropped in price considerably since they were invented in 1991, and improvements in electrode materials have increased their capacity from 1100 mAh to over 3000 mAh Spent lithium batteries are not considered hazardous waste, although they are easily recycled (and recycling is definitely encouraged!). Lithium-ion polymer batteries are similar to Li-ion batteries except they use a gelled electrolyte instead of a liquid electrolyte. They have a higher energy density and it can be manufactured in a smaller package than Li-ion, but they also cost more.
