ABSTRACT
Kaufmann developed the concept of motility to refer to the capacity, attitudes, resources and skills that make mobility possible: that is, its prerequisites. Family relocation does not fall into the realm of streamlined transport and digital communications that have captured the attention of many mobility researchers. Urry's manifesto for a new sociological method that could account for the social in movement across time and space sought to move beyond the traditional agency/structure binary underpinning sociology's default assumption of fixity. In a similar way, the Queensland Police Service requires that officers serve in their present position and location for three years before being eligible to apply for promotion or positions elsewhere. However, over time these processes are being up-scaled through the creation of national bodies such as the Medical Board of Australia and the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership, to expedite mutual recognition across states or national registration protocols.
