ABSTRACT

Social studies is a content-rich school subject. Embracing the fields of history, geography, political science, economics, psychology, and the like, social studies offers rich oppor - tunities to understand why we do the things we do. Yet the beauty of social studies is also its bane. Rich and exciting ideas are one thing, how to demonstrate understanding is quite another. In this chapter and the next, we talk about the ways that students can show us what they have learned.
