ABSTRACT

This chapter considers hate crime that carry an even more restricted definition because, to facilitate analysis, only a single type of hate speech racism and xenophobia. There are numerous purposes behind the creation of a hate website but the principal ones are: Publicising the message, Education, Recruiting members, Social interactions. Physical self-harm sites devoted to self-injury undoubtedly exist but they would seem to be less common than eating disorders websites. The chapter focuses on two most prominence eating disorders (ED), both in society and on the internet: Anorexia and Bulimia. When considering harm it is not just about the debate between disorder and lifestyle, it is also about whether the existence of sites will cause people to develop an ED. Self-harm is generally not a criminal offence and therefore publicising or glorifying self-harm sites will not be criminal either. There are two potential types of criminal offence that might apply: communication offences and obscenity legislation.
