ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the ecoregional governance framework, developed to be compatible with Ostrom’s framework and to analyze the cases presented in the book. This specific framework takes into consideration only the governance system and the social, economic and political settings. The variables used are clearly defined, accompanied by examples. The proposed approach does not limit itself to analyzing regional environmental agreements from a legal point of view. It allows us to go beyond agreements to understand their role in overall ecoregional processes.
