ABSTRACT

Increasing concern about the potential impacts of global climate change, attributable primarily to human activities, has placed the issue of carbon management at the top of the international policy agenda. This chapter examines the science underpinning climate change and how this might be addressed through adaptation and mitigation measures, based on an understanding of the global carbon cycle. The aim is to provide an introduction to climate science, together with a broad and integrated overview of carbon management approaches. Climate change is one of the main drivers for the green economy, and carbon management is one of its main elements.
