ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the technical and operational details of the guided-missile destroyers. The types of the guided-missile destroyers includes Almirante class DDG, County class DDG, Halifax class DDG, Kashin class DDG, Manchester class DDG and Udaloy class DDG. Arleigh Burke class DDG is a very impressive design of advanced guided-missile destroyer intended as partner for the Ticonderoga class CGs in replacement of the Coontz class DDGs and Leahy/Belknap class CGs, the type features an austere version of the AEGIS radar/SAM-control system, and some 29 units are currently planned. Suffren class DDGs are area-defence destroyers designed to protect French aircraft-carriers from air and submarine attack, and were the first French ships designed from scratch as missile carriers, in this instance with stabilizers to provide a stable launch platform. T47 class DDGs are obsolescent area-defence anti-aircraft destroyers of single-ended capability and limited radar capacity.
