ABSTRACT

A key aspect to one’s fulfilment is self-presentation. People who show outward signs of confidence are rated favourably by other people. What is ‘on show’ is dramatically important in life. For instance, it has been found that being seen as confident renders you more likely to be chosen as a leader, more likely to obtain a job, more likely to attract a romantic partner, more likely to have your advice taken seriously, and more likely to be viewed as trustworthy. Whenever you need to report or give evidence, then the level of confidence you are perceived to exhibit becomes a key determinant of how much weight people place upon your testimony. The extent to which people can effectively enhance their selfconfidence increases the chance they will be able to influence other people, or be chosen for important roles. Whenever people are together, those who can appear to possess confidence, those who present well, quickly discover they enjoy a raft of social advantages.
