ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book focuses on the positive side of educational leadership but do so without avoiding the dark side of leadership-those aspects that undermine positive change. It examines classic and cutting-edge thinking about educational leadership, and analysis pointed to 10 specific areas where leaders can make a difference in their organizations. The book argues that literacy can empower learners to "design their own representations of knowledge rather than absorbing representations preconceived by others; that it can be used to support the deep reflective thinking that is necessary for meaningful learning; and that it enables mindful and challenging learning". It iterates that health and Holistic leadership proffer seven fundamental assumptions about the nature of effective leadership: Discussions of health and holistic leadership vary in terms of which aspects of humanity appear to warrant focus and sustained attention.
